Broward Sheriff’s Office investigate inmate suicide at main jail

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate who hung himself Saturday at the main jail.

Christopher Burner, 37, was found by another inmate hanging from a bed sheet in his cell around 1:10 p.m. in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Burner was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at about 1:57 p.m.

Burner had initially been charged with one count of felony battery by strangulation and two counts of battery.

During a court hearing Friday, a judge revoked Burner’s bail and he was taken into custody.

The Broward Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of death.
