Public education is thriving at Southwood Middle School. Somehow the faculty and staff have developed the often illusive formula that provides an educational institution a life of its own. One of those rare schools with a perfect mix of nurturing and challenge, Southwood is where you see pride and a sense of purpose. I attended a showing of the Nutcracker there last week. The small, unassuming auditorium did not deter the students from putting on a show worthy of Carnegie Hall.
A standing ovation to Principal Magda R. Pereira, Magnet Dance Director Hilda Jimenez and the Southwood staff. To the students who turned an otherwise routine Thursday night into a night to remember, Bravo!
