Letter writer Carole Stone expressed concerns regarding security at a Metrorail station. Our security officers must perform a variety of duties while on patrol, and must patrol all areas of a station and bus bay areas. Often, this leads to the impression that a station lacks a security presence.

Under Florida Statutes 812.015, fare evasion constitutes petit theft, and therefore, is a crime. Miami-Dade Transit takes the issues of crime and disturbing patron behavior very seriously, and it takes immediate and proactive measures to mitigate these activities. We also ask that our patrons report any illegal or suspicious behavior by calling our Transit Watch hotline anytime at 305-375-2700.
