I’m an FIU alumnus and donor, and I feel that the reactionary outcry over the firing of Coach Mario Cristobal is exaggerated, uninformed, and malevolent. The athletic program simply made a decision to improve a football program that was in decline since its first bowl appearance and conference title in 2010.
As the 2012 college football season commenced, FIU’s entire defensive unit returned as seniors. The team was picked to win its conference, but inexplicably they managed to attain a 3 and 9 record and wind up at the bottom of the Sunbelt Conference. FIU simply made the decision to move forward without Coach Cristobal; a decision that has been over-criticized by those who never paid any attention to the program or cared enough to go to a game, until now.
