Staying In

Hanukkah fare from Aroma

Trying to come up with a Hanukkah-worthy meal for eight nights isn’t easy for busy people on the go. That’s where the Aroma Market & Catering comes in.

Even bubbehs were ordering potato latkes and brisket from the glatt kosher Cooper City venue, which offers dozens of prepared salads, vegan dishes, various meats, pastries and specialty items like gefilte fish and kasha varnishkas in its long display cases.

We were pleasantly surprised by the latkes, which tasted homemade when heated up at home. The brisket was flavorful and not too fatty, though we would have liked more gravy, especially since we used some of it for the kasha. They do a good job on their white fish salad, and sweet-and-sour meatballs filled in nicely as hors d’oeuvres.

You can also buy fresh produce, frozen foods, desserts like chocolate bapke and doughnuts right from the oven. And if you’ve been meaning to pick up a menorah, Aroma stocks that, too, along with candles, dreidels and candy for the kids. For anyone who keeps kosher, it’s a go-to place year-round.

Aroma Market & Catering, 8819 Stirling Rd., Cooper City; 954-252-2600; 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 8-9 p.m. Thursday, 7 a.m., to two hours before Shabbat Friday, closed Saturday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday; soup $3.99-$6.99 per quart, fish, beef and chicken dishes $1.75-$24.99 per pound, salads $5.99-$10.99 per pound, vegan dishes $2.99-$9.99 per pound, sides $1-$10.99 per pound, dairy menu $15-$20 per tray, pastries and cakes $3.49-$27.99 (more for sheet cakes).

Cuba Gooding Jr to divorce, Al Gore’s daughter marries

Cuba Gooding Jr. may have to show the money to his soon to be ex-wife, schoolteacher Sara Kapfer, who filed for legal separation. The Jerry Maguire actor and Kapfer were high school sweethearts in L.A. So what happened? Just last year Gooding gushed on The View about his spouse: “I got a wonderful lady that knows how to run the household even when I’m not there.” Hmm, maybe he wasn’t there enough....or maybe he pulled a Dean McDermott while on set.

Spend the night with Joan Collins

Cue the Dynasty music and break out the shoulder pads — Joan Collins is coming to town Friday night with her one-woman show. But don’t expect the Hollywood legend, 80, to focus on her time as bitchy Alexis Carrington Colby on the famed ’80s night soap opera. Collins has quite the acting pedigree, having debuted on the London stage at the age of 9 before she made it on the big screen in such 1950s movies as The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing and Rally Round the Flag Boys. Still quick as a whip, the glamorous as all get-out Brit will tell you all about her illustrious career and more during One Night with Joan at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek.
