‘Jewish Spirituality’ lecture series to start Dec. 16

Filipino Advent services

The Filipino Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Miami invites the public to the "Simbang Gabi 2012," a celebration of Advent Novena of Evening Masses to be Dec. 15-23, with the theme: Celebrating the Gift of Faith.

The celebrants are Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski; the Most Rev. Bernardito C. Auza, Papal Nuncio to Haiti; Msgr. Jean Pierre, the Revs. Jets Medina, Jesus Arias, Pedro Corces, Jeff McCormick and Sammy Alveroa.

Services will be as follows:

• 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St Boniface, 8330 Johnson St. in Pembroke Pines;

• 4 p.m. Sunday at St. David, 3900 S. University Dr. in Davie;

• 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Louis, 7270 SW 120th St. in Pinecrest;

• 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at St. Maximilian Kolbe, 701 N. Hiatus Rd. in Pembroke Pines;

• 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd, 14187 SW 72nd St. in West Kendall;

• 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima, 415 NE 105th St. in Miami Shores;

• 7:30 p.m., Dec. 21 at St. Bartholomew, 8005 Miramar Pkwy. in Miramar;

• 7:30 p.m. Dec. 22, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary — St. Richard, 7500 SW 152nd St. in Palmetto Bay;

• 7:30 p.m., Dec. 23, at St. Joseph, 8670 Byron Ave. in Miami Beach.

Miami Children’s Chorus

First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables will host the Miami Children's Chorus at 4 p.m. Sunday in a musical presentation of "Voices of Angels."

This is a concert that you should attend and bring your children. It is amazing what these young voices can do with the music taught to them.

Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children, students and seniors, and $25 for adults, $10 for children , students and seniors at the door.

The church is at 536 Coral Way.

Hanukkah Party

There's going to be a happy Hanukkah time at Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center and Tauber Academy at 6:30 p.m. Friday. That's when the "FIRE/ICE Friday Night Live Musical Service and Hanukkah Party," will be at the center. The party will feature a giant Menorah lighting, Hanukkah and Shabbat songs led by Rabbi Jonathan Berkun and Cantor David Muchnick.

If you go, you should bring mittens and a scarf for faux snow play. There will also be snow cones, gelt, latkes, a donut bar; a dreidel dance game, edible menorah making, pin the flame on the Chanukiah and you will be able to make our own applesauce. The special guest will be Shlomie the Snowman. This is a free event, but participants are asked to bring an unwrapped new toy to benefit the Jewish Community Services Kosher Food Bank of North Miami Beach.

New rabbi

Something else from Temple Israel of Greater Miami: This weekend, in addition to launching its spirituality series, the temple at 137 NE 19th St. will formally install its spiritual leader Rabbi M. Thomas Heyn during the 7:30 p.m. services.

Heyn assumed the pulpit position in July. The installation service will follow a Shabbat Hanukkah dinner to be at 6 p.m. in the temple's Wolfson Auditorium. The cost of dinner is $25 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Call the temple office at 305-573-5900 to make reservations. Or go to info@templeisrael.net.

Gospel music

Gospel artist Pat Johnson and the Majestic Voices of Christ from the Brownsville Church of Christ will headline the annual Holiday Celebration in Brownsville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Brownsville Transit Village, 5355 NW 29th Ave.
