A train collided Wednesday with an SUV in Pompano Beach, killing on person, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

The collision happened a few minutes before 5:45 p.m. near Sample Road and Military Trail, BSO said. Pompano Beach firefighters confirmed that one person had died, BSO said.

Although the roadway eventually reopened, drivers on their way home Wednesday were advised to avoid the area because Sample Road had been shut down in both directions.

Tri-Rail also warned its riders Wednesday to seek alternative transportation because of delays caused by the crash.

The name of the person killed was not immediately released.
