A 15-year-old Homestead teen, jailed for the accidental shooting of 13-year-old girl on a school bus, is expected to appear in court Tuesday.

Circuit Judge Orlando Prescott will decide whether Jordyn Howe should be tried as an adult.

Police said Howe, a student at Somerset Academy Silver Palms, shot and killed Lourdes Guzman-DeJesus on Nov. 20th.

Howe was charged with manslaughter and carrying a concealed firearm.

Police said Howe was “remorseful” and the shooting appeared to be an accident.

The shooting took place on the school bus at Southwest 296th Street and 137th Avenue.

There were eight other students on the bus including Guzman-DeJesus, who was headed to Palm Glades Preparatory Academy and her seven year old sister who attends Summerville Advantage Academy.

Howe took the .40 caliber handgun from the home he shares with his mother.

Sources said Howe told investigators that he knew the gun was loaded and even passed it around the bus before the gun went off and struck Guzman-DeJesus in the neck.

Guzman-DeJesus was airlifted after the shooting to Miami Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver and the other students on the bus were not injured.
