TEAM OF THE WEEK

The Booker T. Washington football team won its second state championship in a six-year span with a convincing 35-7 win against Jacksonville Bolles. Quarterback Treon Harris threw for two touchdown passes and 245 yards on 11-of-19 passing and ran for three more touchdowns.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Dalvin Cook, Central, football: Cook ran for 155 yards on nine carries and scored four overall touchdowns, including a 78-yard catch from Keith Reed, to lead the Rockets to a 48-33 semifinal win over Naples.

Terrance Alls, Dade Christian, football: Alls caught seven passes for 90 yards and a touchdown for the Crusaders in the Class 2A state final against University Christian.

Antravious Simmons, South Miami, boys’ basketball: Simmons finished with 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Cobras to a 48-42 win over Sagemont and the championship of the A-Rod Classic. Simmons won tournament MVP honors.

Zach Brown, Archbishop Curley, boys’ basketball: Brown had 66 points, 43 rebounds and 12 blocks combined in three wins over MAST, Keys Gate and Marathon.

Nick Santana, La Salle, boys’ basketball: Santana scored 37 points to lead the Royal Lions to a win over Palmetto.

Claire Hebb, Palmer Trinity, girls’ basketball: Hebb had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Falcons to a 64-38 win over Gulliver.

Winter Rodriguez, Dade Christian, girls’ basketball: Rodriguez scored all 41 of her team’s points in a win over Doctors Charter.

Nelson Salerno, Ferguson, wrestling: Salerno scored pins in the Falcons’ victories over Pace and Miami Beach.

Eduardo Moya, Miami Beach, boys’ soccer: Moya had a shutout for the Hi-Tides in a 2-0 win over North Miami Beach.

Jade Hayes, South Dade, girls’ soccer: Hayes had the winning goal to lead the Bucs to a 1-0 win over Palmetto.

    The state semifinals might be the last place you would expect to find a team that just a week earlier was giving an eight-run cushion to a pitcher selected as one of the nation’s 36 high school baseball prospects to play in the 2013 Under Armour Game in Chicago’s Wrigley Field this August.
