Art Basel reports steady (and record) attendance

 

Art Basel Miami Beach said Monday its 2012 visitor tally matched last year’s record of 50,000 people.

The five-day art fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center anchors a week of roughly two dozen art shows, and the stretch has transformed early December into one of the busiest weeks for hotels. Basel rents space to 250 galleries from 31 countries, making it the largest contemporary art fair in the United States.

The Swiss-based fair’s parent company, MCH Group, is part of a joint venture that manages the convention center year-round.
