Rubio’s No vote on treaty exhibits growing pains

 

On Dec. 4, 38 Republican senators were able to block ratification of an excellent treaty.

One of those No votes came from our own Marco Rubio.

The United Nations treaty regarding disabled persons was modeled after our own Americans with Disabilities Act.

It will improve the lives of disabled persons all over the world, and all without changing one single law in the United States.

False scare tactics by some ultra-conservatives brought a cowardly reaction from these 38 Republicans.

Even the support of war heroes John McCain, George H.W. Bush and Bob Dole failed to carry the day.

It was a sad day and it showed how much growing up our junior senator needs to do.

    Re the June 14 story City to add 15 beds at shelters: Over the last several weeks our community has watched several Miami commissioners’ efforts to deal with the homeless population in and around the downtown urban core.

    There are, of course, many reasons to be grateful that President Obama defeated Sen. John McCain in 2008. But perhaps Syria is the biggest reason.

  • Team’s conduct unbecoming

    Shame on the Miami Heat players, team management and the NBA for the deportment of the Heat players during the playing of the National Anthem before Game 4. Their disrespect was reprehensible and warrants immediate action by the league office. Not one of them rendered appropriate honor to our nation. They looked like a bunch of thugs.
