Miami-Dade pilot dies in Palm Beach County airplane crash

A Kendall area pilot was killed when his small airplane crashed in Palm Beach County, according to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened at 1:34 p.m. on Saturday. Timothy Johnson Jr., 33, took off from Lantana Airport, bound for Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport, PBSO said. Nobody was in the plane with him.

After takeoff, the plane looked like it was at an awkward angle, PBSO said, then banked and disappeared nose down.

It crashed inside John Prince Park. Johnson died at the scene, PBSO said. No one else was hurt. PBSO said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
