With all the identify thefts occurring in South Florida, I was appalled to learn that, in order to pick up certain medications at a pharmacy, I had to have my driver’s license scanned into their computer. They now have my full name, address, social security number (from my Medicare card), date of birth and driver’s license number. Should someone gain unauthorized access into the system, my private information could be compromised.
I understand the need to see identification, but to scan it into the system is a violation of my privacy rights. Is it the government’s intention to make it easier for hackers to steal identities? Something must be done to prevent the wholesale theft of private citizens’ identities.
