Stella McCartney shows new collection in Miami

Stella McCartney chose Art Basel week to launch her Spring/Summer 2013 collection for adidas, showcased Tuesday at a swank party at a waterfront home in Surfside. Models wearing her newest pieces were perched by the pool and paddled on paddleboards off the deck. Synchronized swimmers, outfitted in her one-piece cut-out swimsuits, performed in the pool.

McCartney, who also made an appearance at Sephora Aventura for her new scent Lily, said she always designs with a global perspective. Still, she acknowledged that her latest Spring/Summer adidas by Stella McCartney collection, full of pastel and citrus hues, metallics and tropical prints, fits in well with the Miami sun.

“I do like it here, and we seem to be very welcome here as a brand,” she said. “It makes me want to hang out here more.”

McCartney has been designing the line, adidas by Stella McCartney, since Spring/Summer 2005. Focused on performance technology with playful silhouettes, the collection includes styles for running, swimming, yoga, cycling and tennis. High performance footwear and accessories like totes and caps add to the collection, which is only for women.

“I felt women were not getting the technology we deserve and not getting the design we deserve,” said McCartney, who enjoys a range of exercise, including running, skiing, yoga and tennis.

“You want to be confident when you’re working out,” said the mother of four (husband is entrepreneur Alasdhair Willis). “It takes a lot to work out. You have to feel you look good to make you want to work out.”

The line will be available starting in January on adidas.com and in 793 stores worldwide, including adidas Sport Performance stores, Neiman Marcus and Stella McCartney stores, including her newly opened eco-chic shop in Bal Harbour.
