Best Books for Holiday Gifts

A

By Marisa Salcines

Few people in Miami know more about books than Mitchell Kaplan. The mastermind behind the Books & Books empire (aside from the famed Coral Gables store, there are outposts at Miami International Airport, Bal Harbour Shops, the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, West Hampton, N.Y., and the Cayman Islands), Kaplan also co-founded and currently chairs the Miami Book Fair International and, at any given time, can be found devouring six or seven books—at once. So, who better to offer up a little guidance on the art of giving books as holiday gifts? The most important thing, Kaplan says, is to keep the recipient's interests as well as his or her profession in mind. “Are they collectors of art or antiques?” he asks. “Do they tend to be politically interested or readers of biographies? Choose something that you think reflects yourself as much as them.” Still stumped? Read on for a few of Kaplan’s top holiday picks.
