I supported President Obama’s reelection, but am somewhat dismayed by his failure to move beyond partisanship and embrace a true working partnership with those across the aisle. Lincoln moved our country forward during trying times. He understood that leadership is signified by eliminating the schism created by the nasty tone of a campaign.
During the 20th century, President Franklin D. Roosevelt brought Wendell Willkie into his cabinet after defeating him at the polls in 1940. A president’s responsibility is to surround himself with the best and the brightest regardless of party affiliation. It’s time for him to help heal the wounds that divide us.
