Special to The Miami Herald

Horne, the 34th-ranked senior by Sourcehoops.com, is averaging 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks — modest numbers by Class 3A standards but the feeling here is Horne’s shot-blocking numbers will take off once he gets fully acclimated to the Lions’ system.

While The Lions’ star swingman duo of 6-6 Egor Koulechov and 6-5 Jordan Cooper paces an explosive open court attack, Sagemont coach Adam Ross said Horne will play a crucial role for a team favored to win the Class 3A state title.

“Andre brings a tremendous amount of energy,” Ross said. “He plays real hard and is an excellent defender. That really goes a long way with us. We have a lot of guys that can put the ball in the bucket. We need guys committed to making defensive stops and rebounding. Andre’s contributions night in and night out will be on the glass.”
