Many Miami-Dade County commissioners now admit that they would not have voted for the Marlins’ new park had they known then what they know today. However, they knowingly voted for a huge multiyear financial obligation for our county while Jeffrey Loria refused to reveal relevant financial information — a signal of a questionable deal. The county commissioners, Miami officials and attorneys seem guilty of misfeasance while the residents and baseball fans were taken for suckers.
The priority of baseball glory over reasonable financial judgment and responsibility was a clear example of unreliable community leadership in action.
