The Booker T. Washington football team secured its second consecutive trip to state with a dominant 41-13 road win at Cocoa in a Class 4A state semifinal. Treon Harris ran for 135 yards and a touchdown and completed 12 of 19 attempts for 149 yards and three touchdowns.

The Dade Christian football team clinched its first trip to the state finals in its 51-year existence as a school by defeating Naples First Baptist 27-13 in a Class 2A state semifinal. Gary Sampson led the Crusaders, running for 137 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown and going 6 for 6 passing for 137 yards and a touchdown pass.

Athletes of the week

Lorenzo Woodley, Columbus, football: Woodley ran for 123 yards on 19 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Explorers to a 36-19 victory against Killian in the Region 4-8A final.

Joseph Yearby, Central, football: Yearby ran for 123 yards on 11 carries and scored a touchdown to lead a balanced effort by the Rockets in a 38-2 Region 4-6A final win against Melbourne Palm Bay.

Devondre Powell, Jackson, football: Powell caught two big touchdown passes from Quinton Flowers to lead the Generals to a 33-24 victory against Belle Glade Glades Central in the Region 4-5A final.

Luis Dacunha, Reagan, boys’ basketball: Dacunha led the Bison to wins against Miami Beach and Southwest, averaging 26.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists.

Nia Roberts and Kayla Roberts, Norland, girls’ basketball: The sister duo combined for 22 points and 22 rebounds to lead the Vikings to a win against Lourdes.

Frank Rivero, Coral Gables, wrestling: Rivero secured pins in four wins against Ransom, Jackson, Palmer Trinity and Florida Christian.

Alejandro Martinez-Oletta, Palmer Trinity, boys’ soccer: Martinez-Oletta scored two goals to lead the Falcons to a 2-0 win against Westminster Christian.

Danielle Pena, La Salle, girls’ soccer: Pena scored both goals in a 2-1 win against MAST Academy.
