Kudos to Mark Elman for his Dec. 1 letter, Stop multitasking and driving. The number of deaths and catastrophic injuries that result from distracted drivers is staggering.
Loved ones’ pain and suffering are probably greater.
Drivers who multitask swear that that they can do two things equally well. Right, they can pay 50 percent of their attention to texting or talking on a cell phone and 50 percent to driving.
Drivers who say talking while not holding the phone is safe are wrong; the listening is the distraction, not holding the phone.
People who multitask are selfish. I don’t care if they choose to endanger their own lives, but I resent their not considering the lives of others. And our lax Congress is just as negligent and inconsiderate.
