Broward Sheriff’s deputies didn't have to look hard to find the person responsible for stabbing a homeless man to death in Deerfield Beach.

John Stabile, 23, was waiting for police at the scene of the crime and anxious to admit to it, according to the sheriff’s office.

Just after 7 a.m. on Saturday, deputies were sent to the 2400 block of North Ocean Drive after Stabile called to say he had killed a homeless man. When they arrived, he was sitting on the curb with the suspected murder weapon in his waistband.

Stabile reportedly told detectives he stabbed the man in the alley between Rattlesnake Jake’s and the Sea Girl shop and waited for him to die before reporting the murder. He said he didn't know the man but had seen him around the area and had been thinking about killing him for a couple of weeks, according to the sheriff’s office.

Stabile reportedly told detectives he saw the man Saturday morning and went to his nearby apartment to grab a large butcher knife. He then went outside to kill the man.

Stabile said he wanted to go to jail for the rest of his life, according to the sheriff’s office, and if not he would kill again.

Stabile was charged with one count of murder in the first degree and is being held without bail.
