“That’s what we’re trying to make her — more of a facilitator,” said Harris-Curry, who’s looking to bring the state title back to Norland after falling one game short last season. “[We want her to] control the game, control the team, control the offense and get everything set up for us.”
The Roberts sisters — Nia, the senior forward/center who earned All-Dade honors in 2011, and Kayla, her sophomore sibling — dominated the paint for the Vikings.
Both notched double-doubles against Lourdes. Nia had 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Kayla had 10 and 11.
“They play off each other and they do a great job for us rebounding, and offensively Nia’s just strong; she’s just a beast,” Harris-Curry said.
Sophomore point guard Danneal Ford scored 11 points to go with three assists and two steals. Her solid play kept Norland’s lead in double-digits and kept Harris-Curry from having to play Dinkins extensive minutes.
Saturday’s matchup was one between two of the more respected girls’ basketball programs in Miami-Dade County. Norland won three consecutive state championships before dropping last season’s title game, and Lourdes was a regional finalist in 2011.
Lourdes’ Tiffany Suarez led all scorers with 15 points in defeat.
