FALCONS’ RYAN TAKES WEEK 12, RETAKES LEAD AS THREE-WAY BATTLE EMERGES FOR SEASON CROWN
Falcons’ Matt Ryan captured the Week 12 title to narrowly regain the overall season lead in The Miami Herald’s Passer Success System (PASS) quarterback rankings. Ryan nudged ahead of Bronco Peyton Manning, with Patriot Tom Brady close behind in what has become (for now) a three-way race for the season crown. Meantime Dolphin Ryan Tannehill bumps up two spots to 25th. Our rankings, in their 15th year, use a simple formula unchanged since their inception in 1998, factoring accuracy, yardage, TD/INT ratio and team result. Most ratings including the NFL’s are complicated and percent-based, allowing a player to miss half a season injured and still win a title, while ours are cumulative and place a premium on productive QBs who avoid injury or benching. Our updated 2012 rankings appear in this space every Sunday.
