Royal Caribbean testing drinks package

Royal Caribbean International is the latest cruise line to test a new drinks package.

A spokeswoman for the Miami-based cruise line said the operator is testing a package starting at $45 a day on Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, both of which sail from Port Everglades. She said details were not available yet on which ships would offer the packages or what that offer would entail.

Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed earlier this month that it was testing an all-inclusive drink package on three ships: Norwegian Sun, Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Jade. The cost is $49 per person per day, plus tips.

And Carnival Cruise Lines has been testing a promotion once called “My Awesome Bar Program,” now called “Cheers!” It’s being tried out on Carnival Victory, Carnival Splendor, Carnival Breeze and Carnival Dream. That package costs $50 a day including tip for unlimited wine, beer, spirits, soda and frozen alcohol-free cocktails that cost $10 or less; it also includes a 25 percent discount on more expensive drinks, full bottles of wine and champagne and, as of recently, bottled water.
