The new leader of Visit Florida is an inside man.

Will Seccombe, who was chief marketing officer at the state’s official tourism marketing corporation for the last four years, has been named president and CEO. He has been acting in that role since Chris Thompson left to head Brand USA earlier this year.

Prior to joining Visit Florida in 2008, Seccombe worked in the tourism field in Colorado for 19 years.

A government watchdog group criticized the agency for spending $45,000 on a nationwide search that resulted in only three finalists, including Seccombe. The firm that performed that search recruited Seccombe to Visit Florida in the first place.

Visit Florida’s board of directors chose Seccombe unanimously for the president and CEO position.
