TEAM OF THE WEEK

The Jackson football team recorded its second major playoff victory in as many weeks when it eliminated defending state champion Norland 30-21 in a Region 4-5A semifinal. Quarterback Quinton Flowers and wide receiver Christopher Williams-Hall connected for three touchdowns to lead the Generals to their first regional final since 2006.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Gary Sampson, Dade Christian, football: Sampson had 306 all-purpose yards and the game-clinching interception to lead the Crusaders to a 20-14 Region 4-2A final win over Belle Glade Glades Day.

Mikey Ferro, Columbus, football: Ferro returned an interception for a touchdown, recovered a fumble and deflected a pass that led to another turnover in a 42-7 win over Coral Gables in a Region 4-8A semifinal.

Dalvin Cook, Central, football: Cook ran for 123 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries to lead the Rockets to a 34-7 win over Northwestern in a Region 4-6A semifinal.

Treon Harris, Booker T., football: Harris threw three touchdown passes and 252 yards on 13 completions to lead the Tornadoes to a 57-0 win over Gulliver in the Region 4-4A final.

Jamaal Burgess, Killian, football: Burgess ran for 111 yards, including a 78-yard score, to lead the Cougars in a 24-0 win over South Dade in a Region 4-8A semifinal.

Richie Spiller, Booker T., boys’ basketball: Spiller had a combined 25 points, 20 rebounds and 18 assists to lead the Tornadoes to wins over North Miami Beach and Krop.

Stephanie Granada, Palmer Trinity, girls’ basketball: Granada had a combined 31 points to lead the Falcons to wins over Miami Beach and Archbishop Curley.

Jevontea Yarbrough, Coral Reef, wrestling: Yarbrough recorded a pin in 1:26 in his 106-weight class match to lead the Barracudas to a win over Killian.

Jones Cira, Homestead, boys’ soccer: Cira had five saves to lead the Broncos to a 2-1 win against Ferguson.

Alexis Hogan, Mater Academy, girls’ soccer: Hogan had a combined four goals and four assists to lead the Lions to wins over Miami Beach, Pace and Hialeah-Miami Lakes.
