A 56-year-old man is dead after a traffic accident involving multiple cars on Interstate 95 early Wednesday.

Lawrence Robert Schopler of Hollywood was struck by three vehicles after he exited his 2006 Toyota Prius and walked into oncoming traffic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

For an undetermined reason, Schopler first rammed the Toyata Prius into a concrete median in the northbound lanes between Sheridan and Sterling Roads, troopers said.

Schopler died on scene.

The crash snarled traffic as far back as Ives Dairy Road, while the northbound lanes were closed for 5 hours.

Troopers are investigating the crash and urge anyone who witnessed the incident to call (954) 837-4012.
