Thanksgiving 2012

Feast or famine: How the stars spend their Turkey day

Stars, they are not like us — usually. But when it comes to Thanksgiving, many rich and famous types chill out like normal people at home with their families. How ... human! Others can’t help but make it a glamorous affair or travel somewhere exotic (remember how Jennifer Lopez went public last year with Casper Smart in Hawaii?). One thing’s for sure: No one’s dieting.

Jason Sudeikis is going back to his Midwestern roots: Kansas. The comedian will no doubt bring along his gorgeous sidekick, attached-at-the-hip girlfriend Olivia Wilde. “I see friends and eat dinner at 4 p.m., like everyone else,” Sudeikis told UsWeekly. “Just going home is enough for me.”

Andre Braugher: The Last Resort star told The Chew that his wife, former Homicide costar Ami Brabson, handles most of the kitchen duties. “I like to cook, but unfortunately it’s not so healthy. I like Southern cooking — delicious, but a lot of breading, frying, that sort of stuff.”

Erin Heatherton: The Victoria’s Secret model won’t be breaking bread with ex Leonardo DiCaprio, but it’s no big thing. She told Modelinia blog she’ll travel to Chicago and chow at her aunt’s house. “She’s like the Martha Stewart of the family. She can cook anything ... we all just get together and it’s just very warm and cozy.”

Katie Holmes let Jimmy Fallon know her plans, which definitely do not include Tom Cruise: taking Suri to see the grandparents in Katie’s native Ohio. Exercise will be involved. “Many years ago, my dad started this tradition where we all do this run in the local park,” she told the late night host. “It’s a three-mile run called the Turkey Trot. There’s even a prize, which I haven’t won yet. But it’s really fun.”

Jennie Garth: It’s the divorcee’s first Thanksgiving apart from Peter Facinelli, to whom she was married to for 11 years. The ex-couple’s three girls will spend it with Dad, who has moved on with actress Jaimie Alexander (it’s unclear if she’s in the Kodak for holidays yet). Garth told Us she’ll celebrate with the girls on Saturday.

Bradley Cooper told Eonline he’ll travel home to Pennsylvania. “We have an old-school Philadelphia Italian turkey recipe that we do every year. It consists of Wonder Bread and canned peaches.”

No dramatic dinner dates with estranged girlfriend Selena Gomez. Justin Bieber is doing what comes naturally: Being with Mom. “Justin and I will be on the road during Thanksgiving,” Pattie Mallette told HollywoodLife.com. ”We will celebrate it wherever we are.” Um, truck stop?

Paul McCartney has put a bit of a damper on the feasting. In a video for PETA, “Glass Houses,” the vegetarian talks for 13 minutes about the hell turkeys, pigs and other edible animals must endure to sate humans, illustrated with slaughterhouse footage.

Carrie Underwood told Pop Sugar she’s taking in a few strays at the Nashville home she shares with husband, hockey star Mike Fisher. “We kind of got a lot of our friends together that don’t really have a lot of family in the area. We are all gonna make food and cook and eat and drink wine ... all us loners together!”

Chad Johnson’s in the spirit: The disgraced football player Tweeted, “Gonna pig out man.”

The last two standing were tasked with creating an ad campaign and flavor of ice cream for Walgreens food brand Delish. In this corner: Teller’s Magic Swurtle chocolate turtle concoction. In the other: Adkins’ Maple Macadamia MashUp. Both flavors are currently on sale at the drugstore chain.
