TEAM OF THE WEEK

The Belen cross-country team won its sixth state title in the past seven years by cruising to the Class 3A state crown in Tallahassee. Avery Lopez ran a time of 15:37 to finish fourth and lead the Wolverines.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Quinton Flowers, Jackson, football: Flowers ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more, and had a combined 254 yards to lead the Generals to a 39-23 win at Plantation American Heritage in a Region 4-5A quarterfinal.

Gregory Howell, Coral Gables, football: Howell finished with 107 yards on 14 carries and scored the winning 65-yard TD that helped the Cavaliers rally for a 20-14 win over North Miami Beach in a Region 4-8A quarterfinal.

LaKeith Stafford, Norland, football: Stafford ran for 147 yards and two TDs in the Vikings’ 31-21 win over Dillard in a Region 4-5A quarterfinal.

Kathryn Trinka, Ransom Everglades, girls’ volleyball: Trinka had 17 kills to lead the Raiders in a five-set Class 4A state semifinal loss against Orlando Bishop Moore, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.

Sylvia Hernandez, Westminster Christian, girls’ volleyball: Hernandez had 19 kills in the Warriors’ Class 3A state semifinal loss to Orlando First Academy.

Kristine Rios, Coral Reef, girls’ volleyball: Rios had eight kills, seven assists and five digs in the Barracudas’ Class 8A state semifinal loss to Winter Park.

Danny Fernandez, Columbus, boys’ cross-country: Fernandez ran a time of 15:43.29 to finish third in the Class 4A state meet.

Nick Diaz, Sunset, boys’ cross-country: Diaz ran a time of 15:45.96 to finish fifth at the Class 4A meet and help the Knights finish fourth.

Katrina Santiago, Ferguson, girls’ cross-country: Santiago ran a time of 18:49.60 to finish eighth at the Class 4A state meet.

Lauren Archer, Ransom, girls’ cross-country: Archer finished sixth in the Class 2A meet with a time of 18:56.62.

Katelyn Martinez, Braddock, girls’ basketball: Martinez had 10 points and 22 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to a win against Ferguson.

Erik Zorrilla, Southwest, wrestling: Zorrilla scored a pin in 28 seconds to lead the Eagles over Coral Reef.

Juan Marquez, Sunset, boys’ soccer: Marquez had three goals and three assists in two victories against South Miami and Southridge.

Camila Ardila, Doral, girls’ soccer: Ardila scored three goals to lead the Firebirds to a 4-3 win over Chaminade.
