GAINESVILLE -- Driskel to return
Gators starting quarterback Jeff Driskel will play Saturday against Florida State, but just how much he is able to play on his injured ankle, and if he will be able to start the game, has not yet been determined, coach Will Muschamp said Monday.
Driskel was off crutches and out of a protective boot by Saturday’s game against Jacksonville State, and Muschamp said he worked out Sunday but will not practice until Tuesday at the earliest as a precaution.
“He will play in the game,” Muschamp said. “To what degree? Again, the week will determine that on how his health continues to improve. … I don’t know [that he will start]. I know right now, based on [Sunday], that he will play in the game. How much he’s going to play, whether he’s going to start, I don’t know that right now.”
Fellow sophomore Jacoby Brissett would fill any void if Driskel has a setback or reinjures his ankle during the game.
“I’m not going to get into playing all the ‘if’ game,” Muschamp said. “We’re going to see what it is Tuesday, and we’re going to move from there.”
Linebacker Neiron Ball (ankle), right tackle Chaz Green (ankle), fullback Hunter Joyer (thigh) and wide receiver Andre Debose (knee) will all play Saturday, Muschamp said. The four did not practice Monday.
