So the GOP should now find a way to court Hispanics? Hope Hispanics are smarter than other groups the GOP has courted. In the ’60s they courted Southerners who were unhappy with the end of school segregation. In 1988 they courted the fearful with Willie Horton ads. In 2000 they courted the homophobic with hasty anti-gay marriage initiatives on state ballots. This time they courted anti-immigrant advocates with fear of lost jobs. And, as always they courted the gun owners with lies about passage of laws to take away their guns.
So when the rhetoric is coming at you, look beneath the words and ask yourself what it really means to you and the country’s future, because you are not just another vote, but an important part of America.
