Interfaith Thanksgiving service planned for Wednesday night

Congratulations to local author Ellen Brazer, who will be one of the speakers at the Miami Book Fair International at 3:30 p.m. today.

Brazen will be in Room 8316, Building 8, third floor, at the Wolfson Campus, Miami Dade College, and will speak about her latest book, And So It Was Written, which premiered on Amazon as a bestseller under Jewish Literature.

Meet the new pastor

The Rev. Dr. Samuel J. Eaves II and the congregation of Tenth Tabernacle Church of God and Saints of Christ, invites the community to a "Meet and Greet" event to be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the church, 2298 NW 62nd St. in Liberty City.

New to the area, Eaves said he wants to meet the people of the area to see how "we can be of service to our neighborhood." The event will have singing, fellowship, a give-away and a traditional Thanksgiving lunch.

Violin and more

Arts at St. Johns will present 4th Chakra, featuring violinist Vicki Richards and her musical friends, at 2 p.m. on Nov. 25 at St. John’s Church, 4760 Pine Tree Dr. in Miami Beach.

Richards’ friends are Jeff Deen on the tabla, percussion and halo, and Mitch Kopp on guitars. Each musician is a leader, composer, and improviser in his/her own right, and the group embraces new technologies to achieve the best of both acoustic and electronic enhancements for their musical journeys.

Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 online and for seniors, and $5 at the door for students with I.D.s. The concert is free to military with family and I.D.s.

Also at Arts at St. Johns: "Writing Women’s Voices," a writing critique group for women will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. each Wednesday at the church. The program includes all genres of writing - fiction, novels, nonfiction, short stories, poetry and memoirs.

    The Heiken Children’s Vision Program provides free comprehensive eye examination and glasses when prescribed to low-income school children who fail their vision screening and have no insurance or other resources for eye care. The program was started in 1992, and since then, 75,000 children have received exams with 83 percent needing and receiving free eyeglasses.
