This month’s Loy Krathong celebration promises to be big. How big? Big enough that Thai Airways is adjusting its schedule and suspending some flights on its Bangkok-Chiang Mai and Bangkok-Chiang Rai routes Nov. 27-29. It’s a precautionary measure to avoid floating lanterns from being sucked into airplane engines as people in northern Thailand take part in the tradition of releasing floating lanterns during the annual Loy Krathong festival. Flying the lanterns is said to avert bad luck.
