A suspect has been arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of attempted murder in the September shooting of two brothers in Little Haiti.

Barton Coy Hill, 19, was arrested on Thursday at an apartment in Gwen Cherry in Allapattah at Northwest 18th Terrace and 22nd Avenue. Miami Police spokesperson Kenia Reyes said Hill tried to escape, but the detective moved quickly and stopped him. The suspect didn’t have any weapons with him at the time.

“The felony apprehension team was able to locate him based on an anonymous tip,” said Reyes. She said such tips can be a crucial part of solving a crime.

Hill was named a suspect after he allegedly shot and killed two brothers on September 17. Mackenson Pierre, 17, and Yves Sylvester, 15, were sitting outside a home at 134 NE 68th Terr. around midnight with two friends when they were killed.

Hill was arrested in 2009 for robbery and attempted murder. He was put on probation with house arrest, but never served jail time.
