Florida Gators’ Jeff Driskel out against Jacksonville State

Miami Herald Writer

It’s official. Starting quarterback Jeff Driskel (right ankle) will miss Saturday’s game against Jacksonville State, coach Will Muschamp confirmed Wednesday.

Jacoby Brissett will start and play well,” Muschamp said. “I’ve got a lot of confidence in Jacoby.’’

The injury did not heal enough to allow Driskel to practice on Wednesday.

He was seen using crutches to get around Tuesday, and Muschamp said his status is also in doubt for next weekend’s game against Florida State.

“How much it will improve into next week? I have no idea at this time,’’ Muschamp said. “We feel like he’ll be available [for the Florida State game], but who knows?”

• Nickel safety De’Ante Saunders (knee) will miss Saturday’s game, Muschamp said. Wide receiver Andre Debose (knee) and linebacker Neiron Ball (ankle) are also out.
