Linebacker Eddie Johnson, who did not travel to Virginia for football-related disciplinary reasons, was back at practice Tuesday and “has been reinstated” to the team, coach Al Golden said.
Golden said Johnson “won’t start,” but he can play Saturday against USF.
“There’s a responsibility and level of accountability that we can’t move on without,” Golden said. “It’s not, ‘Do this for me.’ It’s, ‘Do it because the rest of the team is doing it and because you want to be accountable and you want to be responsible and you want to be a good teammate.’
“Hopefully, he’ll come out of it stronger and respond. I’ve been in situations where two or three years down the road you look back and say, ‘That was a moment that I finally realized what I’m giving up or what I’m costing the team.’ As a coach, you can’t look the other way.”
Freshman linebacker Gabe Terry, who also has been disciplined and did not travel to Virginia, is still out.
“I would love for him to play,” Golden said. “It’s in his court. He’s got to mature. He’s got to see the big picture and understand how he impacts the team. I’ll leave it at that. Right now he has not been reinstated. I don’t know if that’s going to change.”
