Three people died in separate traffic accidents over the weekend in Broward County.
A pedestrian was killed as he crossed the street in Fort Lauderdale, a woman was thrown from her car in a one-car accident on Interstate 95 in Deerfield Beach, and a passenger died when a car hit a light pole in Pompano Beach.
Lawrence Weir, 59, of Lauderdale Lakes was crossing Northwest 31st Avenue near 13th Street just before 7 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 traveling north. The driver, Donald Evans, 58, stopped and waited for police to come, Fort Lauderdale police told Miami Herald news partner CBS4. Weir was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center.
Just before 2 a.m. Sunday, Nicole Catherine Kuncl, 27, of West Palm Beach was traveling south on Interstate 95 when she lost control of her SUV and veered over the right-hand shoulder, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Her 2000 Ford Explorer flipped over and hit a tree, throwing Kuncl from the SUV. She was taken to Broward Health North Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Mitchell Striggles, 55, of Margate, was driving north on Interstate 95 in his 2002 Chrysler Concorde about 1:15 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his car while trying to exit at Copans Road in Pompano Beach and hit a light pole. Gerva Dwight McKaskill Jr., 36, of Lauderhill, who was riding in the front passenger seat, was killed instantly, said FHP spokesman Mark Wysocky.
