The key moment in the match came late in the pivotal third set. Westwood was trailing Calusa 22-18 and appeared headed for a 2-1 deficit but rallied to win 27-25. The winning shot came when senior Elizabeth Jenkins, who finished the night with 18 kills and a dozen service points, sent a kill shot over the net that appeared to be deep. But Calusa’s Victoria Alexander stretched for it and got a hand on the ball deflecting it away giving the point and set to Westwood.
Calusa, which had a roster filled with eighth and ninth graders and just two seniors, finished 10-8.
