The Miami Hurricanes appear as though they will be down two defensive starters at Virginia.
Linebacker Denzel Perryman, who has started six games this season and ranks third on the team with 50 tackles, has been listed as doubtful for Saturday’s noon kickoff in Charlottesville on the team’s injury report released Thursday. Perryman has played most of the season with a high ankle sprain.
Freshman safety Deon Bush, who has started six of the past seven games and has 31 tackles this season, is already listed as out with a stinger. Bush likely will be replaced in the starting lineup by junior Kacy Rodgers.
Freshman receiver Robert Lockhart, injured Tuesday in practice, is now listed as out for the season following “lower extremity” surgery. Lockhart only played in two games and didn’t make any catches.
Lockhart, though, doesn’t appear to be eligible for a medical redshirt.
According to NCAA rules, medical hardship waivers are only granted to players injured in the first half of the season. Lockhart played against North Carolina and Florida State – the seventh and eighth games in UM’s 12-game regular-season schedule.
