Salute to veterans

Wayside Baptist church will remember veterans in a special way at 6 p.m. Sunday. The program, “For God and Country — A Salute to Our Veterans,” is a patriotic musical tribute presented by the church’s Special Ministries. All veterans and service men and women on active duty are invited to let the church and patriots honor and thank them for their service to the country. The program will include sacred and secular music.

According to Connie Samuels, director of Special Ministries, more than 60 members of the church have been rehearsing for the show for at least six months. "We are traveling back in time to honor our veterans from the Revolutionary War to the present," she said.

Wayside Baptist is at 7701 SW 98th St. Call 305-595-6550 for more information.

Christmas Bazaar

Grace Lutheran Church will have its annual International Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the church’s social hall. The bazaar is a great place to get an early start on your Christmas shopping.

Items for sale will include jewelry, art, handmade toys and carved soap stone items that have been handmade by artisans from around the world. Your purchases will help the impoverished artists to become financially independent so they can feed their families and educate their children.

The church’s Crafty Bunch will have many handmade items in the bazaar.

A quilt made by the Grace Quilting group will be raffled off.

Attendees will also be able to sample a cup of Fair Trade International coffee and chocolate grown by farmers using ecologically safe methods.

The church is at 254 Curtiss Pkwy in Miami Springs. If you go, you are urged to get there early for the best picks.
