Miami police were searching Sunday for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a person critically injured.

The crash happened about 7:20 p.m. Saturday near Northwest 12th Avenue and 67th Street, where a man was driving a blue 2004 Yamaha all-terrain vehicle southbound.

Near the intersection, the ATV was hit by an eastbound vehicle, police said, possibly a white Dodge Durango.

The impact threw the rider from his dirt bike. He was left nearly lifeless on the side of the road, according to police. The other drive left, police said, without stopping or giving aid.

The ATV driver was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for what police described as “extensive head injuries.” He was in very critical condition Sunday. His name was not released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami police’s Traffic Homicide Unit at 305-603-6525 or Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 305-471-8477.
