Letters to the Editor

A voice for abused kids

Re the Nov. 1 story Gay foster child says he was mocked, harassed: Thank you for bringing to light the disturbing story of this young man’s mistreatment. According to the Department of Children & Families, a child in foster care has the same rights as everyone else. That means children in foster care have the right to individual dignity, liberty, privacy, pursuit of happiness and the protection of your civil and legal rights.

Luckily, this young man has the support of the Guardian ad Litem program and a court-appointed volunteer who speak up for his best interests and are a voice for abused and neglected children. I fear what would have befallen him if he had not had a GAL. Too many abused and neglected children in Florida will go to court with no one there to stand up for them.

But members of this community can be their voice and a trusted ally.

I congratulate this young man for his courage and those who believed his story and in him.

  • Good job, IRS

Bravo to the IRS for doing their job. With Tea Partiers dedicated to overthrowing the government, forcefully if necessary, why should they receive tax-exempt status?
