The defending world champion in the 2012 O’pen BIC World Cup, Geronimo Nores, 12, of Miami is in third place after two days of racing on Biscayne Bay.
Nores trails Under 15 class leader Peter Dill of Bermuda and runner-up Andrea Stowasser of France with seven races scored.
The eldest competitor in the 99-sailor fleet, Julie Zahniser of Fort Pierce, 45, leads the Girls’ Open division. Zahniser is racing alongside her 9-year-old daughter Caroline Locke.
Nic Muller of Fort Pierce leads the Open division. Racing concludes Saturday, followed by an awards ceremony at Miami Yacht Club, which is hosting the first O’pen BIC world championships held in the U.S.
