FSU’s Dustin Hopkins within reach of scoring record

Miami Herald Writer

Florida State placekicker Dustin Hopkins has had a tremendous year personally. The senior already has become the all-time leading scorer in FSU and Atlantic Coast Confererence history.

Now Hopkins, who has 417 career points, is within reach of the NCAA scoring record of 439 points set by Boise State’s Kyle Brotzman from 2007-10 seasons.

“He’s tremendous. Everybody looks at the points. What he does on kickoffs, field position, being able to kick that ball high enough, not let certain guys touch the ball, it’s a tremendous weapon,” said Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher. “His ability to have the range on the field goals and the consistency, it’s a huge weapon, a vital part of recruiting. We’re blessed to have him. I know that.”

Hopkins is also a tremendous athlete, having played safety in addition to kicking in high school.
