The Miami Herald’s Top 20 South Florida poll for Week 9

 

1. University School (7-0) vs. Jacksonville Eagle’s View (4-4), 7, Thursday, Nova.

Andre’s pick: University 45, Eagle’s View 17. Hurricane Sandy gave the Suns a week off. A rested squad takes care of business quickly.

2. Booker T. Washington (7-1) at Monsignor Pace (4-4), 7:30, Friday.

Andre’s pick: Booker T. 42, Pace 7. The Tornadoes will cruise past their final district opponent.

3. Central (5-2) at Belen (2-5), 4, Friday.

Andre’s pick: Central 35, Belen 12. The Rockets should have little trouble closing out the district schedule on a high note.

4. American Heritage (7-1) at Dillard (4-4), 7, Saturday.

Andre’s pick: American Heritage 34, Dillard 14. Patriots pull away in second half and clinch District 15-5A crown.

5. South Plantation (8-0) at Deerfield Beach (4-3), 7, Friday.

Andre’s pick: South Plantation 26, Deerfield Beach 20. Tough test, but Paladins survive and lock up District 11-8A title.

6. St. Thomas Aquinas (6-2) at Cooper City (4-4), 7, Friday.

Andre’s pick: St. Thomas 41, Cooper City 14. Don’t expect much of a letdown from the Raiders with a chance to secure the District 16-7A title.

7. Cypress Bay (6-2) at Western (6-2), 6, Saturday.

Andre’s pick: Cypress Bay 24, Western 7. Lightning wraps up district schedule and try to stay healthy for the playoffs.

8. Columbus (6-3): Bye week.

9. Northeast (7-1) vs. Monarch (6-2), 7, Fri., Coconut Creek.

Andre’s pick: Northeast 31, Monarch 14. Hurricanes already locked up District 14-7A title, but should still play well enough to win this one.

10. South Dade (8-1): Bye week.

11. Killian (6-1) vs. Palmetto (3-5), 7, Thursday, Tropical.

Andre’s pick: Killian 27, Palmetto 13. The Big Cat Trophy is on the line, and the playoff-bound Cougars want to keep it.

12. Homestead (6-2) vs. 14. Northwestern (6-2), 7:30, Friday, Harris.

Andre’s pick: Northwestern 16, Homestead 14. The Bulls survive and force a tiebreaker for the District 16-6A runner-up.

13. Carol City (6-3): Bye week.

15. Plantation (6-2) at Nova (4-4), 7, Friday.

Andre’s pick: Plantation 38, Nova 10. Colonels do their part to secure a postseason bid.

16. Boyd Anderson (6-1) vs. Coconut Creek (1-7), 7, Friday.

Andre’s pick: Boyd Anderson 45, Coconut Creek 7. Cobras will have a chance to get young players experience prior to the postseason.

17. Norland (6-2) vs. Key West (5-3), 7:30, Fri., North Miami.

Andre’s pick: Norland 21, Key West 6. Vikings finish what they started against Jackson and clinch the District 16-5A title.

18. Flanagan (6-2) vs. Miramar (5-4), 5, Saturday.

Andre’s pick: Flanagan 16, Miramar 13. Falcons shock the defending Class 8A state runner-up.

19. Cardinal Gibbons (7-1) at Hallandale (4-4), 7, Friday.

Andre’s pick: Cardinal Gibbons 20, Hallandale 14. Chiefs find enough offense to edge Chargers and clinch playoff spot.

20. Jackson (5-3): Bye week.
