Ladies and gentlemen, start your ovens. Slow Food Miami returns to the Barnacle Historic State Park, 3485 Main Hwy., Coconut Grove, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday for Thighs & Pies, its annual pie contest and picnic.
In addition to an overall champion, winners will be named in sweet, savory and youth categories by judges Lee Brian Schrager, South Beach Wine & Food Festival founder; Hedy Goldsmith, Michael’s Genuine executive pastry chef; cooking teacher Ariana Kumpis and Miami Herald restaurant critic Victoria Pesce Elliott.
Contestants must bring two renditions of their pies, one for judging and one for a bake sale that will benefit Slow Food Miami’s Edible School & Community Garden Program.
Admission is $25, $15 for kids ages 5-15 and free for younger tots, and includes a fried-chicken spread by The Federal and Whole Foods plus live music; www. slowfoodmiami.com.
