According to NOAA, several months of 2012 had the highest monthly temperatures ever recorded in the United States, putting this year on track to be the warmest on record. Lower-than-average snowfall and precipitation have exacerbated droughts and wildfires in some of our communities. Yet, climate change was not an issue raised in any of the presidential debates. It barely has been mentioned at all this campaign season.
Now Hurricane Sandy has snagged our attention from the political pundits and operatives who would normally dominate this final week before the election. It forced President Obama and Mitt Romney to alter their well-planned campaign schedules. Is Mother Nature trying to tell us something?
