GAINESVILLE -- Coach Will Muschamp has turned his focus away from the deflating loss to Georgia and toward making sure Florida doesn’t suffer the same fate this weekend against Missouri.
After turning the ball over six times on offense against the Bulldogs, Muschamp said the Gators have work to do in terms of ball security before playing the Tigers on Saturday in The Swamp.
“They lead the nation in forced fumbles — five last week against Kentucky — so we need to tie up some things there,” Muschamp said.
“We need to do a better job [with ball security],” Muschamp added before also pointing out that UF had just four giveaways before Saturday’s loss to Georgia. “... It’s not been a reoccurring issue throughout the year.”
• Junior safety Matt Elam was named as a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award (the nation’s top defensive player) and the Jim Thorpe Award (top defensive back). Running back Mike Gillislee also was named as a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, given to the nation’s most outstanding player. Gillislee this season has 161 carries for 729 yards and seven touchdowns.
