My granddaughter, Valerie-Ann, is a seventh grader at Young Women’s Preparatory Academy in Little Havana. After attending the open house for a second year and being very involved in her schooling, all I can say is that it’s a wonderful alternative for young ladies to have such a high-standard education with committed teachers and eager to learn students.
It brings me back to my high school years when I attended Notre Dame Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school. We were focused on our academics and were competitive in our studies; we also had fun and did pretty good socially and in sports, if so inclined. Single-gender schools should be a choice for parents with children in public schools.
We feel Valerie-Ann is doing much better academically and is determined to succeed in her future endeavors.
