I am a gastroenterologist and have diagnosed two women in the past month with colon cancer. Both spent years without health insurance. One just received Medicare and came for a routine test, where I found the cancer. The other was seen in an emergency room for pain. With no insurance, she was sent home without follow-up care.
Under Obamacare these two women would have had preventive screening coverage, colonoscopies done at age 50 and never would have had cancer. Mitt Romney, however, vows to repeal this law his first day in office. As you think about who you will vote for Nov. 6, think of the scenario where my patients are your family members. My patients, and America, deserve better.
